Geologist / Communicator / Builder

Geoscience for a more connected world.

I’m Haydon Mort, a geologist who works on how people understand the earth, and on the tools and conversations that help.

About

A geologist, builder and communicator.

My research was on ancient oceans, read from the sediments they left behind and what those layers say about how the planet works. The longer work since has been about people: how someone takes in an idea, what makes them trust it, and what it takes to say something technical so that it lands.

That became Geologize and Practical Geocommunication, a way of teaching geoscientists to communicate that organisations from AGI to UNESCO Geoparks have adopted, and specialist communication courses for the mining industry.

Lately it has also become software. I build tools for the mining world with the people who need them, quickly, and I stay until they work. I help conference sessions earn their audience’s attention. And I founded SureOre, which puts numbers on the risks that conventional diligence misses, including the social ones.
